American Bittern - Birds of Pennsylvania - 1890

American Bittern is readily distinguished from other birds of the family by its brownish yellow plumage, greenish colored legs, and large size. It is a summer resident of Pennsylvania, where it arrives early in April and remains until the first week of November.
